The Brief

The director, Steve Desmond, approached me to create a title animation and credit sequence for a short film he was putting into the short film circuit. The main character is a young girl, locked in a post-apocalyptic bunker because of the threat of monsters kidnapping children. She courageously leaves the bunker only to find out who the real monsters are. The tone recalls the classic Twilight Zone series.

I approached the title sequence with the our young heroine in mind, and focused on all the things she might be missing out on by not being able to go outside. I had no budget or footage, so I took it upon myself do some shooting on my own. I reached out to the director and found the neighborhood where they shot the exterior of the house. I captured the house, the neighborhood, and anything that resembled places where children might gather. Before embarking on my shoot, I pulled together reference images to plan out the edit. The hand-held shooting style paired well with the uneasy treatment I proposed to the director. Compositing grunge, tracking and color correction took the piece to another level. The film went on to get accepted into countless film festivals, winning numerous awards.
