The Idea

Aspect sold an idea for a main on end credit sequence to New Line Cinema for their new film Game Night. The concept revolved around showcasing Jesse Plemon’s character, Gary, and his plot to get invited to game night at his neighbor’s house (Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams).

Hired as a freelance 3D generalist, animator, and art director, I assisted with 3D layout, texturing, set building and 3D camera animation. The challenge was animating a continuous camera move through Gary’s basement with the intent of combining a practical shoot with a visual effect shot.

In coordination with a staff Art Director and 3D modeler, I was responsible for 3D set layout and prop design for pre-revisualization. In Maya, I positioned elements in coordination with the cast order and camera position over time. I then provided video playbacks of the pre-visualization to enable reviews and approvals prior to the shoot. As a result, they were able to recreate the identical scene practically for the shoot enabling an easy sync in post-production.
